Description:
HSUMD General Meeting
7:00 PM
Historic USO Buildiing
Description:
By popular request, Andrew Sound, Director of Programming for the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert will address the membership with a reprise of his acclaimed presentation at the Inyokern Chamber of Commerce. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 19 at 7 pm at the Historic USO Building. The original meeting took place take place in August at the historic Town Hall in Inyokern.
For many years, Mr. Sound has presented a diverse slate of guest lecturers to the members of the HSUMD. His knowledge of local Valley history is vast, and the subject of that gateway city, "Inyokern: 100 Years Under the Sun," was quite interesting and well-received. The lecture included historical pictures of Inyokern through the years 1874 to 2004.
For the past several years the fate of the venerable Town Hall building, constructed in 1914, has been in question. One of the purposes of the original meeting was to re-ignite an interest in the preservation of this local iconic structure and the part it will play in the promising future of the city of Inyokern. It certainly received a powerful response, and this encore presentation promises to do so, also.
The Society normally meets every third Tuesday of the month. The meetings are free and open to the public.
