Description:
The Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert will hold it first meeting of 2019. Guest speaker will be rock art researcher David Lee, who will present a program entitled “Ancient Images of the Owens Valley: 20 years of Documentation and Research. “ The talk will show Indian art from around the Owens Valley, and discuss Lee’s research into the history and meaning of the art. He has damage assessment and surveys after vandalism and fires as well in normal times.

David Lee is an independent researcher who has documented hundreds of rock art sites in North America and northern Australia, and has been working with senior Wardaman Elder Yidumduma Bill Harney since 2005 in a project to document Wardaman rock art sites and associated traditional knowledge. He has published numerous books and papers including “Rock Art East of the Range of Light” and “Learning to Listen: A Personal Journey to the Land of the Lightning People.”

The Society meets on the third Tuesday of most months.
